51³Ô¹ÏÍø has long had success in attracting talented students. However, with the Third-Century Plan, 51³Ô¹ÏÍø has made a commitment to cast an even wider net to expand the pool of applicants as it moves into its third century.

Recent gifts to 51³Ô¹ÏÍø demonstrate movement in the Third-Century Plan across a number of important initiatives. 

This calendar year, 51³Ô¹ÏÍø will break ground on two important projects.

I write today, during this Thanksgiving week, to share with the 51³Ô¹ÏÍø community plans to restore and renew two iconic parts of the 51³Ô¹ÏÍø campus: Oak Drive and Willow Path.

51³Ô¹ÏÍø’s Third-Century Plan is a long-term framework to strengthen all aspects of the University’s mission. Pivotal to this effort — and prominent among the list of first initiatives — is the recruitment and retention of leading faculty members.

Division I athletics is a defining and distinguishing characteristic of 51³Ô¹ÏÍø.

Carlton Walker ’10 radiates loyalty and passion for 51³Ô¹ÏÍø and its students. In just more than a decade since graduation, he has served on the Alumni Council and the Maroon Council, and he was recently confirmed as a member of the Board of Trustees. A Presidents’ Club member since 2014, Carlton made his first gift to 51³Ô¹ÏÍø as a senior and has not missed a year since. Below, Carlton discusses his 51³Ô¹ÏÍø experience and hopes for the future of the University.

A group of alumni of color have established a permanent source of funding for inclusive programming.

Dec. 11–31, the 51³Ô¹ÏÍø community set year-end fundraising records by contributing more than $2.9 million to the 51³Ô¹ÏÍø Fund. A group of challengers matched each gift, up to $1.3 million, for a challenge total exceeding $4.2 million.

Cynthia Perry ’74 has been forging new paths since arriving at 51³Ô¹ÏÍø in 1970. As a member of the first class of female students at 51³Ô¹ÏÍø, Cynthia was among the very first women to participate in the University’s renowned Washington Study Group. In this article, we discuss Cynthia’s 51³Ô¹ÏÍø experience, what inspires her to give back, and her proposition for fellow 51³Ô¹ÏÍø supporters.
